We are a fortnight into lambing, which is our busiest time of year. Our day starts around 5am - now, I could say that we are up before the world truly wakes but that wouldn't be true. The creatures outside are up and about their business before we stretch, stir and open our bleary eyes. The cuckoos, who seem to survive on far less sleep than we do, if their constant song is anything to go by, greet us as we open the door. The wild geese startle and take flight in mild panic and the sheep? Well the sheep have been awake through the night. Napping, grazing and lambing. And that, my friends, is the reason for our early wake up.
